What Causes Hair Breakage and How to Protect Your Hair

Hair breakage is a problem that almost everyone experiences at some point. You brush your hair, and suddenly you see short broken strands everywhere. It is particularly disappointing when you are trying to grow your hair longer but it just keeps snapping.

The truth is, hair breakage does not happen overnight. It builds up slowly because of daily activities, the way we style our hair, and sometimes even the products we use. The good news is that once you understand the reasons behind it, you can actually fix it.

Here, I am going to give you some insights on what really leads to hair breakage and how you can easily keep your hair protected. I’ll also share some products I’ve personally tried that really helped make my hair stronger and smoother.

1. Heat Styling Damage 

The excessive or frequent usage of hair straighteners, curling irons, or hair dryers may lead to hair weakening. High temperatures alter the natural hair composition, resulting in a dry, rough texture and a tendency to break. Over time, you may notice more split ends and dullness.

How to protect your hair:  

It is a must to spray a layer of heat protection before styling and to limit the use of heat-styling tools to just a few times a week. 2. Overwashing Your Hair Washing  

Frequent hair wash leads to the removal of natural oils. These oils play a vital role in smoothing, shining, and even protecting our hair. Without them, your hair will become dry and fragile which is the main cause of breakage.

3. Tight Hairstyles

4. Chemical Treatments

5. Rough Brushing

6. Lack of Moisture

7. Skipping Regular Trims
